Steroid Virilization in Women – The Reason Steroids Transform Your Body

Steroid virilization is a term that’s used to explain the condition in which women develop masculine traits, as a result of using anabolic steroids.

Virilization –also known as virilism- occurs when the adrenal glands begin to uncontrollably overproduce androgens.

The adrenal glands are two small endocrine structures that are found above the kidneys. These are in charge of producing and releasing a series of different hormones into the bloodstream.

Some of these hormones are then converted by the ovaries into potent androgens – such as DHEA, Testosterone, DHT, and Estrogen.

Although these steroid hormones give female athletes an undeniable competitive edge – they’re also the cause of virilism.

Steroid virilization is irreversible and just one of the many risks associated with the uncontrolled use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). In this article, I will cover the all-important aspects of steroid virilization in women; including its symptoms and how to avoid them in the first place.

Steroid Virilization Symptoms

Symptoms of steroid virilization are very easy to recognize and rarely go unnoticed. The side effects are harsh, irreversible, and can destroy all signs of femininity.

Contrary to popular belief, no matter how low the dose or mild the steroid is; side effects will always be present.

Although most of these are permanent, the ones that can actually be reversed will require specialized medical attention, in order to be managed.

Common symptoms of steroid virilization in women are:

1. Enhanced Muscularity
2. Acne
3. Oily Skin
4. Excessive Sweating and Change in Body Odor
5. Increased Red Blood Cell Production
6. High Cholesterol and Triglycerides
7. Irregular Periods
8. Baldness
9. Facial and Body Hair Growth
10. Deepening of the Voice
11. Shrinking of the Breasts
12. Clitoral Enlargement
13. Pronounced Jaw

The first six side effects can be either managed or reversed; while the last seven are believed to be permanent. Female bodybuilders are the perfect example of steroid virilization and how it affects and modifies the appearance of the human body.

If you’ve ever attended –or seen- a bodybuilding competition, you’ve probably noticed an abundance of female competitors with deep voices, chiseled jaws, augmented breasts, and fake hair.

It’s also worth noting that the milder side effects should never be taken lightly because they can eventually lead to serious health issues.

Can Steroid Virilization Be Reversed?

As it was previously mentioned, some of the milder symptoms of steroid virilization can actually be managed or reversed; under the guidance of a medical expert.

What’s considered mild? I’m talking about acne, oily skin, body odor, etc.

These can be reversed by avoiding steroids and by using medically-prescribed antiandrogens and estrogens.

Sadly, once the voice has deepened, the facial structure has changed, and baldness has begun to set it – there’s no possible way to reverse the symptoms. The same goes for the rest of the harsher side effects.

Some women who’ve used steroids have also reported irregular periods and thyroid-related problems.

Truthfully, there isn’t much information on whether these symptoms are reversible or not. With that being said, they are very delicate issues that should not be taken lightly.

How to Avoid Steroid Virilization

The only way to avoid steroid virilization is by staying away from anabolic steroids in the first place.

Some women believe that certain steroids are more dangerous than others; which wrongfully leads them to experiment with unstable compounds that are both extremely dangerous and unpredictable.

Any expert on the subject will tell you that a steroid’s potential impact is impossible to determine. Everyone’s body is genetically unique and will respond differently.

Some people can use extreme doses and not experience a single side effect; while others could use a mild steroid -in low doses- and see their body suffer from several symptoms.

So again, the only proven way for women to avoid steroid virilization is by staying away from these illegal substances and building their physiques naturally.
Conclusion

Steroid virilization is a common risk that affects women who rely on the use of anabolic steroids for performance-enhancing purposes. The condition is typically followed by a series of symptoms/side effects that can negatively impact, reduce, and destroy all signs of femininity.

No matter how controlled or mild a steroid cycle is – the female body is very delicate and, therefore, highly susceptible to suffer from virilism.

Even though it’s widely believed that some steroids pose a lesser risk for virilization; there’s no possible way to know for sure if this actually holds true for all women. .

There are way too many variables that determine if -and when- someone will be likely to experience any of the side effects of virilization. Once these begin to appear, they will cause irreparable damage to the body that will be extremely difficult to undo.

The harsher side effects will be permanent, while the milder ones will require medical intervention to be either managed or undone.

For this reason, it’s best to stay away from steroids and instead focus on building a physique naturally; following a strict diet, a smart training routine, and using proper supplementation.

What Anabolic Steroids Can Women Use?

Anabolic steroids have been around for decades, athletes began using anabolic steroids in 1954 during the Olympics. Russian weight lifters were given doses of testosterone to help enhance athletic performance.

In the 80s the general population began taking anabolic steroids and they became popular among bodybuilders. I’m sure steroid use happened before but it was kept quiet.

Today without a doubt, steroid use is common, some may say that steroids are abused now more than ever.

Years ago pro bodybuilders would use them to refine their physique but they were not substances that were used year-round.

Today men and women of all ages use anabolic steroids but this does not mean they should.

If you were to participate in some of the popular online forums you would find that many women seek information about taking anabolic steroids.

A lot of women don’t know the first thing about taking steroids and much less the side effects they can cause.

Female friendly steroids

There is a lot of discussions about female-friendly steroids, this term can be misleading because they don’t exist.

Certain anabolic steroids are considered safe because they cause fewer side effects than others.

Anabolic steroids are chemical derivatives of the male sex hormone testosterone. The female sex hormone in women is estrogen, women do produce testosterone but only in small amounts.

Many anabolic steroids are highly androgenic, if women take them they may begin to experience something called steroid virilization.

This is what happens to women who take steroids.

The high levels of testosterone begin to transform their body some of the most common side effects include.

Deeper voice

More facial and body hair

Oily skin

Hair loss

Clitoral enlargement (clitoromegaly)

Steroids that are considered female-friendly

There are only a few steroids that women can use, however, since women have a lower tolerance even a low dose of anabolic steroids can have a noticeable effect on a woman’s body.

The benefit of steroids is to help women gain muscle, increase strength and boost physical endurance.

Some of these steroids can have a positive impact on athletic performance.

Anavar (Oxandrolone)

This is a popular steroid used by women, it is considered mild when used in low doses because of its low androgenic nature.

Anavar has an androgenic ratio of 45:320 which is low when compared to other anabolic steroids.

The higher the androgenic rating the more likely women are to experience side effects.

The half-life of Anavar is 10 hours, what this means is that this is the amount of time it stays in your body after you take it.

This is important to know because in the event you begin to notice side effects you can suspend it and prevent further side effects from occurring.

The recommended dose of Anavar for women should not exceed 5-10mg, anything higher could lead to masculinization.

Benefits of Anavar

Anavar is used to enhance physical conditioning, female bodybuilders will often use it a few weeks before a competition, in order to gain more lean muscle ain increase muscle definition and vascularity.

Besides overall physical enhancements, Anavar helps increase strength, and prevent water retention.

Winstrol

This is a well-known anabolic steroid that is sometimes used by women.

Winstrol is often perceived as a steroid to help promote weight loss, the reality is that this steroid increases protein synthesis allowing for increase muscle.

Winstrol can help increase athletic performance and prevent catabolism, this is helpful during cutting cycles preventing muscle loss.

The problem with Winstrol is that it can cause virilization, even more so than Anavar.

Hoarseness (deeper voice), acne outbreaks, irregular menstrual periods, and more facial hair.

Some women report hair loss and severe acne after taking Winstrol for a few weeks.

The biggest argument about Women and Winstrol is that some consider that the side effects in low doses are not that bad. However, just my own personal experience has been the contrary, the side effects of even taking 10mg per day can be severe.

It should also be taken into consideration that Winstrol is hepatoxic and can cause liver problems.

Primobolan

This is a steroid that could be considered mild when compared to Winstrol and on par with Anavar, Some women will even go as far as to stack Primobolan with Anavar.

Compared to Anavar, Primobolan has an anabolic rating of 44-57 because of this it is considered mild and female-friendly.

Primobolan comes in an injectable form (Methenolone Enanthate), in pill form its know as (Methenolone Acetate).

While this anabolic steroid is considered weak, women will see good results from it due to their higher androgenic sensitivity.

Primobolan can be used during a cutting cycle to maintain muscle mass or during a bulking cycle in order to gain additional muscle.

The biggest issue with Primobolan is finding a legitimate source, that is actually selling the real product, there are many online pharmaceutical companies that sell Primobolan but these are often counterfeit.

Trying to find legitimate sources of anabolic steroids is a chore in itself, however, if you do your careful research they are available. One good source worth looking at would be domestic- supply you can visit their website here they have been around for many years and sell the real deal.

Should women take steroids?

This is a personal question have to ask themselves.

Steroids of any kind can cause side effects, ask any reputable fitness coach or trainer to give or her honest opinion about them, anyone who is reasonable will tell you that before taking any substances you should take a close look at your training regimen and diet.

Losing more body fat and increasing toned muscle can be fine-tuned by a few dietary changes and workout regimens, once you have reached your limits with those methods only then should you consider taking steroids.

Alternatives that work like steroids?

Most women don’t realize that there are safe steroid alternatives, they offer similar benefits that can burn fat, increase muscle and boost training performance.

The difference between these and anabolics is that they take a bit longer to work but the end result is the same.

Disclaimer WomenandMuscle.com does not condone the use of steroids, this article is for informational and entertainment purposes only.

Steroids that Don’t Cause Bloating

I would first like to say that this article is based on my personal experience of using steroids for a brief time. I do not condone steroid use and believe that women can transform their body without the use of anabolic steroids.

I have written this article for informative and entertainment purposes.

Steroids substances are generally used only by women looking for a competitive advantage.

Female bodybuilders and fitness models may find themselves forced to use these substances in order to maintain a competitive edge.

What I have found is that there are some women who want to take steroids thinking it will magically transform their body, unfortunately, steroids don’t work that way. The worst thing about anabolic steroids is that they can have side effects, some more than others.

Why do women take steroids in the first place?

If you asked that question 20 years ago, most women would tell you that they took steroids in order to add the finishing touches to their body,

The primary reason women would take steroids is to improve the look of their body, increase strength, and enhance athletic performance.

A lot of women claim that there are steroids that are female-friendly, this is not true. While there are steroids that have mild effects when taken in low doses it does not mean they are safe.

Besides causing issues with your health many steroids can cause bloating and make you look puffy.

The last thing a female bodybuilder or fitness model wants is to retain water and look puffy.

This article will tell you about the steroids that don’t cause bloating.

Many of these steroids not only help improve athletic performance they also help flush water from your body by acting as a diuretic.

Anavar

Anavar (Oxandrolone) is considered a female-friendly steroid, it is often used by women to gain muscle and increase strength.

Women are more sensitive to Anavar than men which is why women take it to gain muscle. Best of all it is does not cause water retention.

Winstrol

One of the most well-known steroids has to be Winstrol, it has been used by pro bodybuilders and fitness models for decades.

Winstrol is considered a mild anabolic steroid which is why a lot of women take it. The main reason why Winstrol is popular is that it can offer performance enhancements while giving the muscles a hard and vascular look.

The fact that Winstrol is considered mild by those into bodybuildingit does not mean its safe. Some anumla studies have shown that it can caue premature aging of the liver.

Winstrol is normally used during a cutting cycle to help maintain strength levels when cutting back on calories.

Winstrol is a popular steroid and remains one of the top steroids that don’t cause bloating.

Clenbuterol

What a lot of women don’t realize is that Clenbuterol is not a steroid, its actually a sympathomimetic amine used to treat breathing disorders such as asthma.

Clenbuterol is not supposed to be used for weight loss, it just so happens that the Clenbuterol is a catabolic substance that helps speed up your metabolism, it does this by increasing your body’s temperature and helps you burn more calories.

If Clenbuterol is used in moderate doses it can help burn body fat, help you lose weight and it does not cause bloating.

Primobolan

Primobolan is not considered that female-friendly but women do take it in low doses, in high doses, it can symptoms of virilization.

The symptoms experienced by taking high doses of Primo include clitoral enlargement, deepening of the voice, and body hair growth.

Low doses of Primobolan for women is considered about 25-50mg per day.

Some women will cycle primobolan with Anavar to help increase muscle and mantain low body fat.

Primobolan is considered a steroid that causes bloating but some women have complained about this steroid causing some slight water retention but it is usually minimal.

Watch your diet carefully

The above steroids are the ones that should not cause bloating, most of the time if you notice bloating its important to take a close look at your nutrition plan. A poor diet while taking any steroids is more likely the culprit.

Final thoughts

Women should avoid anabolic steroids if at all possible, unless they are prescribed by your doctor. Steroids are generally used in the treatment of medical conditions such as osteoporosis, and certain muscle wasting diseases.

In most countries, anabolic steroids are illegal without a doctor’s prescription and should only be used under medical supervision.

Before women take any steroid the most important thing is to first ensure you have a good diet and training program.

Why Women Should Think Twice Before Using Steroids

Anabolic steroids are substances that are often used by female athletes, fitness models, and bodybuilders. At one point I stupidly tried them myself and did not have a good experience. Since then I have found better ways to improve my physique with different training methods, a good diet, and supplementation. I’m not saying that you should not take steroids, however, there are many things women should consider before using anabolic steroids.

I’m sure some of you have seen women with an incredible body at your gym. When you do it makes the imagination wander, those women with big breasts or a big booty we can assume have had some kind of surgical enhancement, then there are women who have vascular rock hard muscles and curves that make you wonder how did they get that way.

Not to be critical but today’s generation often look for shortcuts or an easy way to do just about anything, including a physical transformation with the help of anabolic steroids.

It’s a known fact that if you take steroids even without working out they help increase muscle and eliminate body fat. Working out enhances the process, even more, the problem is steroids can only do so much.

We have all heard of the side effects from anabolic steroids which I have discussed here, in this article, I am going to share with you what I have learned about anabolic steroids and why most women should avoid them.

One of the reasons I write about this topic is because not a day goes by that I don’t hear women discussing their intent to take steroids, the problem is that a lot of these women are not even physically ready, and much less understand how they work.

Many women just know of other women who have used them before and think they should also try them.

What are anabolic steroids?

Anabolic steroids are derivatives of the male hormone testosterone.

Just hearing male hormone would make a lot of women run in the opposite direction, that is unless you are planning on a sex change in the near future.

Yes, women who take testosterone will begin to experience man like traits, that’s because the main sex hormone in women is estrogen.

Women do produce testosterone but only about one-seventh of what men produce.

Even though women produce less testosterone than men do, it does seem to play an important part in boosting female sex drive and mood.

Testosterone can also help prevent the onset of osteoporosis which is often responsible for bone fractures and breaks.

When women take testosterone it can cause several problems that range from shrinking breasts, a bigger clitoris, a deeper voice and excess facial and body hair.

In spite of the side effects caused by steroids some women are still willing to try them.

The biggest issue I have seen is that a lot of women want to take steroids long before they have achieved as much as they possibly can with plain old diet and exercise.

Have you ever seen a woman who has taken steroids for a long time?

For some females, a rugged more masculine look may be fine but others want to keep their femininity intact.

Photo: Kashma Maharaj FBB Pro Courtesy Pinterest

Taking anabolic steroids is serious business but why are some women so obsessed with taking steroids?

Reasons why women want to take steroids:

Get rid of body fat

Increase muscle mass *beyond their normal potential)

Increase strength

Boost physical performance

Improve muscle definition and vascularity

If you visit some of the message boards on popular forums you will find women there who want to take steroids for some of the strangest reasons, I have seen anything from women who are going on a cruise or special social event or those who want to look good for spring break at the beach.

I’m sure there are dozens of ways to justify steroid use but I always say that taking steroids should be a last resort.

While it is true that female bodybuilders and fitness models that take anabolic steroids have usually been training for several years and have made a career out of bodybuilding and fitness, most of these women have special doctors and trainers to guide them, even so, its risky business.

Reasons why women should avoid anabolic steroids

You don’t fully understand the risks

Most women play down the risks and side effects associated with using anabolic steroids, you will be told that certain steroids are female-friendly, the truth is there is no such thing as a female-friendly steroid.

Why some claim female-friendly steroids exist.

Each anabolic steroid has something called a half-life, this is the amount of time a substance stays in your body. There are both slow and fast-acting esters, the difference between the two is how long the substance remains in your body.

Female friendly steroids are those with fast acting esthers.

The reason they are considered friendly is that if they do begin to cause side effects stopping them immediately will prevent further side effects from occurring.

For example, taking slow-acting esters could cause your voice to deepen and your clitoris to grow, many times once the side effects begin to surface there is no guarantee they can be reversed.

Even anabolic steroids with fast-acting steroids have side effects.

Most of the fast-acting steroids are metabolized fast so you have to take them more often, in most cases every day, since they are processed by your liver they can begin to affect it.

Oral steroids are metabolized by the liver and are more toxic.

It will be hard to avoid symptoms of masculinization

Even the mildest steroid will cause some sort of steroid virilization to happen, even if you do a few short term cycles that cause side effects that amount to 2% every time you take them, after three cycles you will have some degree of masculinization.

Imagine taking steroids for several years, this will definitely have side effects.

Sooner or later you will lose your gains

There are few women that can keep a constant training regimen, once again those that do are doing it because it’s their career, they earn money from it. If you are just doing it for a hobby for the sake of looking good why would you risk your health?

Pro fitness models and bodybuilders quickly lose their gains after they stop using steroids.

After female bodybuilders or fitness models retire you will notice that they quickly begin to lose muscle and begin to gain weight. Taking steroids is no different than working out, as long as you workout you can usually consume more food (calories). The minute you stop working out and continue to eat the same amount of food you gain weight.

Taking anabolic steroids is no different, while you take them you are stronger, have a faster metabolism, and more endurance, the minute you stop taking them you will quickly lose your gains, this cannot only affect your body it may also affect some women psychologically.

Most women should not take anabolic steroids

I invite any woman who is interested in taking some kind of anabolic steroid to do their own research. Visit different steroid forums and you will see that most experts will tell women to avoid anabolic steroids if they can. Having a better-looking body is more about proper training and diet. In fact, I have personally been able to bring my body fat down considerably just by eliminating complex carbs from my diet.

Sponsored Link

Supplements can also be helpful

If you want to gain muscle and burn body fat there are dozens of supplements that can help. Dietary supplements, if used properly and with proper training, can be almost as effective as steroids.

Supplements like Clenbutrol contain ingredients that help speed up your body’s metabolism without side effects. So don’t be afraid to experiment with different supplements.

Conclusion

Just because you think that anabolic steroids are the answer to transforming your physique they are not. Anabolic steroids might seem like magic pills, however, they are not something you should mess around with.

I personally feel much better knowing that I have earned my physique from hard work and proper nutrition, I can’t speak for other women because each individual has to choose what they feel is right for them.

Why Gaining Muscle with Steroids Is Not a Good Idea

Gaining muscle with steroids is something some women may consider when they want to get into shape.

In previous articles, I have discussed and reviewed individual anabolic steroids and the side effects they can have on women.

Even though some women realize the dangers involved from taking steroids, they will still follow through and use them.

I was one of those women.

Stubborn me said what can possibly go wrong?

I had read countless forums before I started my cycle, it seemed that there were more women who benefited from using steroids than those who did not.

However, if you think about it, most women who have had bad side effects from taking steroids will run away scared.

If you had a bad experience as I did, the last thing you want to do is tell everyone on a public forum what happened.

Women who consider steroids are usually looking for one of two things, they want to increase muscle and eliminate body fat.

There are a few exceptions though, powerlifters take steroids to help gain strength while athletes like sprinters and runners will take them to increase endurance.

Obviously, if you are a professional athlete, rules were meant to be broken and many women do break the rules for the sake of keeping up with the competition.

There are many countries that allow their athletes to use anabolic steroids in order to have an edge over their competitors.

Most women who take steroids, especially in the US do if for one thing and that is to look good.

Anabolic steroids can make it easier for women to burn body fat and gain muscle.

If you don’t, believe me, all it takes is spending a few minutes on Instagram and what you will see are dozens of hard body women showing off what they have.

Many of them have incredible legs a big booty and nice abs.

I’m not saying that they do not work because they do. However, anabolic steroids allow them to gain lean muscle and thickness.

Without a doubt steroids make it easy for women to gain muscle in all the right places.

Most women use steroids that are considered mild like Anavar and Primobolan, these are mostly for burning fat and increasing muscle definition. However, in order to gain muscle, they need to use steroids that are more potent (androgenic) which are not considered female friendly.

Steroids cause symptoms of Virilization.

Virilization means that it can cause man like traits in women, this is because steroids increase the male sex hormone testosterone.

The side effects can be mild to severe and can cause clitoral enlargement, facial hair, deepening of the voice and a slew of other side effects.

Steroids used for bulking:

Deca Durabolin

Trenbolone

While these steroids are primarily used for bulking as a woman you should avoid them.

Why?

Because the side effects can be harsh and may be irreversible.

Deca-Durabolin

Deca is a steroid woman will look for when they want to gain muscle, unfortunately, Deca (nandrolone) can have some pretty bad side effects.

Some women say they have taken Deca in low doses and have had very few side effects from this steroid, however, others have reported the opposite.

The issue with Deca is not so much that it’s potent, the problem is that the half-life is about two weeks.

The half life is the length of time a steroid remains in you system.

When you inject Deca Durabolin it spikes for the first 24-48 hours and can last up to two weeks.

Why this is bad.

Because, if you begin to notice emasculating effects those will continue to progress until the end of the half-life, in this case about two weeks.

So, if you do begin to notice symptoms of deepening of the voice or clitoral enlargement it may be too late.

While some women do take Deca there is no guarantee that his steroid is not going to cause side effects even in low doses.

Trenbolone

Trenbolone is a scary steroid even when taken by men, you can only imagine the side effects it can have on women. I mention Tren because in spite of all the warnings there are some women who will actually consider it.

Yes, it can help you gain muscle but it can also make you look like the incredible hulk.

Tren is a steroid that is highly androgenic.

While there are women who brag about taking this anabolic steroid the side effects are usually harsh. In fact, most guys will steer away from Tren because of the side effects.

Can it help you gain muscle? It sure can, but are the side effects worth it? Probably not.

Some of the side effects of Trenbolone include:

Deepening of the voice

Excess body hair (all over)

Thickening of the skin

Clitoral enlargement

The half-life of trenbolone is about 2-3 days, even in low doses 10-30mg every other day, it can still cause side effects although it usually takes about a week or so for the bad side effects to kick in.

One of the first side effects is usually a deeper voice, it may start out crackling and eventually become deeper unless you stop taking the steroid.

While Trenbolone is used by women it is not recommended under any condition.

Women who have used tren to gain muscle usually don’t care about physical transformations and are willing to accept the masculine side effects.

So, what do you do if you want to gain muscle?

All women can gain muscle, but since women are physiologically different than men, it’s hard to gain muscle

like a guy.

You can workout smarter, lifting more weight with fewer reps can help you increase muscle.

Try and focus on major muscle groups like legs, back, and chest.

Compound movements like squats, deadlifts and bench press all help stimulate more muscle.

Conclusion

Ask any bodybuilder or personal trainer if gaining muscle with steroids is a good decision and he or she will probably discourage you from doing so.

Gaining muscle with steroids is a serious decision, and as a woman, you are obviously willing to take a risk that can affect your health and physical appearance for the rest of your life.

I personally like to keep things natural, it has worked for me plus I sleep better at night.

Rosalie Bennoto

Hi My name is Rosalie and the author of Womenandmuscle.com I started this blog to help women understand a little about the side effects of anabolic steroids and share some of my favorite alternatives that have helped me stay in shape and improve my performance in the gym.

CrossFit and Steroids do Women Use Them?

Crossfit is a sport that requires a lot of endurance and energy. I have done CrossFit and to say the least, it is a demanding sport.

I personally prefer keeping my cardio and strength training routines separate. In other words, I like warming up with cardio followed by an hour of strength training.

One of the reasons a lot of women like Crossfit is because when done properly it gives you a great cardio workout combined with strength training.

What is Crossfit training?

Crossfit is a form of interval training that involves strength and cardio exercises. These movements are performed with high intensity.

A CrossFit workout involves doing a variety of push-ups, squats, and lifting weights. These exercises are done in a specific timeframe, the exercise help improves cardiovascular health, endurance, strength, and speed.

Crossfit boxes

This is the term used by cross-fitters, instead of going to a gym to CrossFit workouts are called boxes which is in fact a gym.

Most men and women perform Crossfit to help improve their health, but there are professional athletes that actually compete in what are called CrossFit games.

There is a big difference between someone who does CrossFit for health reasons versus a CrossFit competitor who does this professionally.

Professional Crossfit athletes have been known to use steroids to help increase athletic performance, the ultimate goal is winning the competition.

Crossfit and steroid use among women

It would be a naive statement to say that pro athletes who do CrossFit don’t take steroids, the truth is some do and have been caught, steroid use among female crossfitters has become just as popular as their use by fitness models and female bodybuilders.

Women who perform CrossFit at a professional level like competitiveness and in order to improve their athletic ability some may take anabolic steroids. These can help improve athletic performance, strength and give them a physical advantage over their competitors.

On a day-to-day basis taking steroids weeks before a competition will help speed up muscle recovery and body composition, many steroids will help reduce body fat, weight and help women gain lean muscle.

While the average person that does CrossFit does it to improve their health, this is no different than people who jog, swim or lift weights.

Women who do Crossfit on a professional level do it to prove their athletic abilities and win.

Some of the Crossfit competitions pay a substantial amount of money upwards of $20,000.00 dollars and sometimes more depending on the competition.

Some of the Crossfit athletes have been banned and openly deny the use of steroids, yet the testing has revealed something different.

Below is a list of women who have been suspended or banned from Crossfit due to steroid use, in some of the cases women claim foul play but there is no real way to judge one way or another.

Anna Fragkou

She tested positive in 2019 on the eve of the Crossfit Open, they found her in violation of the Crossfits drug testing policy, the tests claim she showed positive for Oral Turinabol.

This steroid is a cross between Methandrostenolone and Clostebol which is an altered form of Dianabol just its slightly less potent.

The benefit of Turinabol is that it can help women increase lean muscle, something needed in order to increase athletic performance.

Fragkou denied the use of this steroid and claimed she only took dietary supplements and claims she was still puzzled on how she tested positive.

She also made the comment that after she did some careful research on the effects Turinabol could have on women and mentioned she would never be willing to use a substance like that which could be harmful.

Whether she used steroids or not Frakou was suspended from Crossfit games for 4 years.

Katie Trombetta

She tested positive for two substances, ostarine, and GW1516.

Ostarine is an anabolic agent (a SARM) it was developed to treat muscle wasting disease such as osteoporosis. GW1516 is considered a type of hormone that alters hormones.

Trombetta was tested on July 29th at the Crossfit games, because of the positive test she was suspended for 4 years.

Hylie Thompson

Thompson was ranked 4rth masters 55-59 at the 2019 CrossFit games, the drug test showed traces for GW1516 sulfide and sulfone which are a class metabolic modulator hormones. Thompson was suspended for 4 years.

The women mentioned above, unfortunately, got caught with performance-enhancing drugs in their system, because o this they were suspended.

Other popular Crossfit women

There are dozens of other women who practice the sport of Crossfit Professionally,

Some of these women have not tested positive for steroids or PEDs, yet if you look at their physique many of them have incredibly lean muscular bodies. Some of them even have big traps, wide shoulders and wide muscular backs, some of them even tend to look a bit on the masculine side.
